He'll be gone like his name, SMOKE!
I just got this guy here from Kern County Shelter. What an ordeal that was!

Smoke was relinquished by his owners with his house mate Nala, another pure bred Queensland, only red.
Guess they wanted one in each color... Nala isn't here yet, but she will be shortly.

All I know about Smoke is he's a very nice boy with lots of energy and...
Soon as he entered my yard, he found a tennis ball, dropped it at my feet and barked.
Tossed it, he caught it, dropped at my feet, and repeat. He's a lot of fun.
He loves water too, I was filling his self watering jug and he likes to bite at the water from the hose.

And he rode beautifully in the car out of a crate. Held his stuff till we got out! Poor guy,
I didn't realize how long he'd been cooped up. But this bides well for the house manners part of his testing.

Smoke happens to be gorgeous. he's 38 lbs and just kicking his kennel cough.
So once he's finished his antibiotics, he'll be out the door I'm sure.
He already is feeling great to be out and active.

Haven't had a minute to take more photos of Smoke, but I will post in the next day.
His adoption fee is $200 to help cover his neuter and medical care.

Lets talk about Tex.
We'll never know how he made it here, but here, he is.
Tex's has a condition called "Collie Eye" this is a result of merle to merle breeding.
Rare in Cattle Dogs, they really aren't ever merle, but ticked.
I fit him for Doggles to help protect the eyes.

To know Tex, is to love him, he's beautiful.

First thought, Tex was blind, but after having him a few days, I think he has some limited vision...
No vision in the left eye, but some in the right, enough to keep him safe and able to navigate stairs and uneven surfaces.

He now goes on pack walks/runs, and I forget he has any challenges at all.
He listens to the sound of my voice and he behaves like any other dog.
If I do see him possibly running into something, I say "Tex, No" and he veers!
On the approach of stairs or in and out of the van, I say "Step"
Now when he's about to walk up to something he needs to step over or be careful of, I just say "Step."
We walk all over the place with him off leash and he is absolutely amazing.

This is a 'mission possible', find the right home for Tex.
A stoic Australian Cattle Dog, Tex clearly had a good home in the past.
Totally dog social, knows basic commands and is a very calm boy.
He is such a loving companion dog it's very touching.

On his first pack walk I was nervous about letting him off leash on unfenced acreage.
Finally let him go... he followed me. Listens and stays near.
Incredible! No worries about really letting him run and play! And he loves it!
Since he's integrated with my pack, he spends his time playing like mad, in my yard with the other fosters.
I forget Tex is sight impaired and concentrate on my new fosters. Tex is an old hand at this now.
He's been this way from birth... I so wonder who let him go or if someone is missing him...

Tex is just a great companion dog, with or without other dogs in the household. Although he does love other dogs.
It's a riot to watch him play, butt in the air, romping with the pack.

He's going to be fine with cats! He's just great with everyone, people and dogs.
A vision impaired or blind dog can cope as well as any other.

Tex was about to be euthanized, purely for his disability...
At 4 years of age, he wound up in small rural shelter that wasn't prepared to deal with a blind dog.
Luckily, he was transferred to a shelter that was.
One of the many reasons I love Kings County Animal Services, their compassion and hope is endless.

Great photos of Tex: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.3109793341827.159849.1174145724&type=3&l=588655d142

And here comes Marshall!!
Exuberant young Queensland / Border Collie. About a year old, with a cropped tail.
Such a happy guy!
He was my ambassador, when integrating 3 dogs into a pack of 11.
Marsh is such a  clown, took the edge off the situation.
Appropriate with all dogs.
Everyone was instantly playing. Not one scuffle. Marshall is comic relief!

Marshall was informed of his name when I bailed his butt out, he responds well.
Great recall, always comes when I call or blow the whistle.
Perfect dog on an off leash outing. Good on leash as well.
He loves to run with the dogs, but keeps an eye on me at all times.

Marsh is housebroken and uses the dog door.
He was in the house before I knew it. Loves sleeping in one of the dog beds. Crates up nicely too.
Lazy guy in the rain. Curls up, sleeps, and doesn't mind not having a walk.

When Marshall first came here, he was a little mouthy. Herding dog style. That's over!
He has his dog manners down pat! Perfectly people appropriate! Even with children.
Personally a mouthy dog is a little endearing, have to smile, I know I have a cow dog.
But not everyone appreciates a slobbery mouth around their wrist or a nip on the ham... go figure.
Marshall just had to learn that was not cool. He's a biddable guy.

Marshall will make a great friend and hiking or biking buddy. Lots of energy, but knows when to turn it off.
His short smooth coat is easy to maintain. He's tall & slim, about 50 pounds.

Marshall requires a confident, experienced owner. He's one heck of a watch dog.
If you are unsure of someone, he will try to guard.
Confidence puts him at ease so he can be his warm, friendly self.
He's the perfect guy for experienced herding dog owners.

Marshall's adoption fee is $175, and covers his neuter, vaccinations and micro-chipping.

Duffy is a 2 year old Border Collie/Lab cross.
Tuxedo markings, black, white cross on his chest and white toes.
Weighs about 120 pounds, super long legs, plumed tail, a narrow head, folded ears.
Very expressive face and likes to "people watch".

Originally from Animal Services, stray. was adopted him about one year ago.
Border Collie / Lab X. . . too much to exercise for the adopter and not fair to Duffy. . .
Neutered, micro-chipped, vaccines current.
Loves to play with water, turn the garden hose on full blast and he'll chase to exhaustion.
Always clean, drip dry dog. He runs so much you never have to clip his nails.

Diet consists of no grain kibble, about 3 cups 2x's a day, with some wet food mixed (left over vegies or meat, or canned) in.

Duffy is intelligent, learns easily, gets bored easily, too. He's a Border Collie!
Duffy likes dogs that are wiggly and quick moving. Appropriate at the dog park, wrestling, rolling, takes off running after.
Checking in, every few minutes.

Loves people. Haven't had him around children much (just no opportunity) but I think he'd do fine,
but he is a large wiggly dog and might knock them over accidentally. Would prefer a home with no small children just to be safe.

Duffy loves to go for rides, takes a minute to settle down. Then he's great.
Walks on a leash but tries to pull if distracted by a dog or cat.

A real people pleaser. He is so likable!
Duffy likes to grab a bit if my shirt sleeve, if I have on short sleeves he will lightly take my wrist and try to move me. . .
I correct and he immediately lets go.
An extreme athlete! Active and can make anything into a toy.
Loves toys and any size balls. Howls when he hears sirens, it's funny, he REALLY gets into it!

At some point, there was a fight for dominance with another large dog.
Started as play, but on the advice of the adopters vet, the 2 could no longer be allowed together,
the other dog is elderly, but won't back down.
The best resolution at this time is to re-home Duffy.

Duffy guards his food, will need to be fed separately. No issues with people.
And oddly when giving out small (one-bite size) treats, Duffy can be side by side with my other dog, each taking his treat politely, no grumbling.

Duffy needs an owner that can balance him so he doesn't have the need to dominate other dogs.
Would do fine as the only dog. . . with occasional playmates at a park, hike or beach.
An owner who is athletic and wants a companion to go on hikes, running, bicycling, etc. would be the ticket!
The more Duffy has to the better he is. He would excel at any number of dog sports with training and patience. He is highly trainable.
Duffy would benefit from an owner who with previous Border Collie or herding dog experience.

I'm happy to speak with prospective owners about Duffy. More photos on request.
All questions answered to the best of my ability and honestly.
Please email info@ccbcrescue.com for photos or questions.

Duffy lives in Bakersfield, CA (Kern County). I would prefer to adopt him out locally.
Prospective owners should be from Bakersfield (or surrounding areas, Southern California/Central Coast).

Duff's adoption fee is not an issue if he can be placeed in a forever home.
Thank you for reading about Duffy's and considering rescue!

Beautiful, willing, smart Queensland red heeler, 4-year old, 45 lb. male, needs a breed-savvy owner and room to run.

About a month ago I adopted him from the county shelter in Lompoc, planning to augment neighborhood walks with runs on the beach and hikes in the hills. But it turns out this cuddle-bunny has fear aggression toward dogs, so we can't be around unleashed dogs. We're working with a trainer on this, and there's slow improvement, but because I work 40 hours a week I can't spend as much time as would be ideal with him.

This little guy is a complete love: he's ultra smart, learns fast, and wants to please. He is a loyal, devoted companion who really wants to stick close to his person.
I'm committed to finding him a great situation, so a home visit will be a prerequisite, along with a small adoption fee. Photos on request.
Up-to-date with all shots, worming, flea prevention.
Serious, breed-savvy inquiries only.
